"Oxford Big Read Asia Contest"...Oxford University Press

Oxford University Press (OUP) announced the names of the national winners of its 4th Oxford Big Read competition. ALHAMDULILLAH! from Pakistan, Hasan Adil (B-7958) who studies in class 8 at Islamabad campus of Siddeeq Public School, won the Special Commendation Prize in the Level 3 (classes 7–9) category of the competition.

The idea behind this unique project is to introduce school children to quality reading materials and to inculcate in them a life-long love for reading, leading to appreciation of the written word, and better learning and critical thinking skills.

Students who participated in the competition were required to read Oxford books and write reviews on them. Now in its fourth year, the reading contest, aimed at primary and secondary school students, received an overwhelming response in the form of around 4400 entries. 107 schools from 28 different cities of Pakistan participated in the competition. The entries were received from three different levels: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. The book reviews were first judged at the regional level and the finalists then competed at the national level. The reviews were evaluated by a panel of jury comprising well-known educationists, distinguished academic experts and authors of children’s books.

ALHAMDULILLAH! two promising Siddeeqeens; Hudiya-e-Zehra (G-8521) – Siddeeq Public School, Rawalpindi and Hasan Adil (B-7958) – Siddeeq Public School, Islamabad secured the positions of Regional Finalist at Level 3.

In the second round of the competition, Hasan Adil, won the title of the National Winner at National Level. He is awarded a certificate, a gift voucher worth Rs 25,000 by OUP, a Smartphone, and a gift hamper for being the National Winner.

In the last round of the competition, the review projects of the National Winners are evaluated by the members of international jury at Asian Level including China, India, Malaysia, and Pakistan. ALHAMDULILLAH!  Hassan Adil has been given SPECIAL COMMENDATION.
